Delgado House - Carlisle, MA

This 2,300 square foot house has as its inspiration the old 1920s bungalows. But this house is very different---it is an energy efficient, sustainable house. The heating bill for this house is miniscule, due to a double wall construction and a high tech blown in insulation that makes the house as snug as a bug. The walls are 2x6 wood studs and 2x3 metal studs. This double wall, fully insulated, provides a tight enclosure for the heat that is provided by the radiant heating in the tile floor, or by the masonry woodstove in the Living Room. The floor plan is open, with tall windows, energy efficient windows that capture the solar heating. The roof has a large overhanging roof that gives the house its sheltering look. There is a beautiful porch that has a view of the setting sun. All the exterior wood materials are cedar, to require no maintenance through the years.
